In a recent appearance on MSNBC, U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) delivered a pointed critique of President Donald Trump's actions since his return to office. She expressed concern over the administration's recent initiatives, particularly those outlined in Project 2025.
“Americans thought that it was okay to take a full-fledged criminal and make him the President of the United States and then they want to act aghast when he does criminal things,” Crockett remarked.
“We have a thug in charge of the United States and if we don't wake up, we may not have a United States,” she warned. “Right now, he has only been successful in being a divider-in-chief.”
Crockett also addressed the administration's recent actions, which have been described as part of Project 2025—a comprehensive conservative policy agenda developed by right-wing think tanks. This initiative aims to restructure the federal government and expand executive power, leading to concerns about potential authoritarian shifts.
She noted that many people previously dismissed Democratic warnings about such initiatives, often responding, “You know, it’s just Trump. He just talks.”
“Well, let me tell you something. He is doing more than talking. We [Democrats] talked about Project 2025, we talked about the consolidation of power. We talked about how he wanted to be a king,” said Crockett.
“We talked about in a democratic republic we have some sort of checks and balances and he is doing everything that he can to get rid of those checks and balances,” she added.
Since his inauguration, President Trump has swiftly implemented a series of executive orders targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, as well as reversing policies he deems "woke." These actions have raised alarms among Democrats and civil rights advocates, who argue that they represent a regression in social progress.
Crockett's comments reflect a broader concern among Democratic lawmakers about the administration's trajectory. They warn that the consolidation of power and the dismantling of established checks and balances could undermine the nation's democratic foundations.
In response, President Trump and his allies have dismissed these concerns as partisan fearmongering, asserting that their policies are aimed at restoring traditional values and strengthening the nation.
As the administration continues to implement its agenda, the debate over the future direction of the United States remains deeply polarized, highlighting the ongoing struggle between progressive and conservative ideologies.
