President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers like U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) are questioning whether DEI played a role in the tragic plane and helicopter crash that took place near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, leaving nearly 70 people dead.
Around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, an American Airlines passenger jet was approaching Reagan Washington National Airport when it collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter that was on a routine training flight.
Trump implied that the FAA’s diversity initiatives put in place under both the Obama and Biden Administrations could have been a factor in the disaster during a press conference on Thursday.
When asked why he thought that, Trump replied, “Because I have common sense, OK, and unfortunately a lot of people don’t.”
“We want the most competent people. We don’t care what race they are,” said Trump. “If they don’t have a great brain, a great power of the brain, they’re not going to be very good at what they do and bad things will happen.”
U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) took to X following Trump’s press conference and wrote that, “This is truly like a real life bad episode of the Apprentice, but honestly, he is the first one who should be fired.”
The Democratic lawmaker called Trump “incompetent” and predicted that for the next four years “when things go bad” his response will be, “Biden, Biden, Biden, Obama, Biden, DEI, DEI, DEI, trans, immigrant, repeat.”
While MAGA supporters agree with Trump’s rhetoric, others took to social media to criticize the Republican President for playing the blame game instead of showing compassion for the crash victims and their loved ones.
At this time, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has recovered the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder of the downed American Airlines passenger jet. Hopefully the victims’ families will soon have answers.
