Jasmine Crockett Faces GOP Censure Threat Over ‘Governor Hot Wheels’ Comment

A Texas GOP lawmaker wants U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) censured after referring to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels” during a speech at a Human Rights Campaign gala over the weekend.

Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) filed a resolution on Wednesday to formally censure Crockett, calling her comment “vile” and “reprehensible.” In a statement, he praised Abbott’s “unwavering resilience” and accused Crockett of launching a “despicable political attack.”

Earlier this week Crockett clarified her remarks and stated that the nickname had nothing to do with Abbott’s disability but was a reference to his controversial practice of busing migrants to cities with Black mayors.

“I was talking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable,” she wrote on X.

At this time it is unclear if or when Weber’s censure resolution will reach the House floor.

In the meantime, Crockett’s critics, including conservatives like political commentator Joey Mannarino, are calling for consequences.

“If Jasmine Crockett acted the way she acts in any other job in America, she’d be fired immediately. Why are our standards for government officials so absolutely low? I’ve never seen someone act the way she acts and get away with it to this level,” Mannarino wrote on X.

Republican Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas) escalated the rhetoric even further and wrote on X, “Jasmine Crockett called for violence against Ted Cruz, wants someone to ‘take out’ Elon Musk, and is inciting domestic terrorism. Democrat approval is at a 30-year low (29%) so why not send her on tour?”

“At this rate, they’ll hit ZERO in no time! RUN JAZZ RUN! You got this,” said the Republican lawmaker.

But others aren’t buying the GOP’s uproar, pointing out the hypocrisy of the same crowd that coined insults like “Sleepy Joe,” “Let’s go Brandon,” and “Michelle Obama is a man.” After all, this is the same party whose leader, President Donald Trump, openly mocked a disabled reporter, Serge F. Kovaleski, during a 2015 rally—imitating his movements and using a derogatory tone.

One user named @ImKnotTheOne, fired back on X and wrote, “Stop with the performative outrage MAGA. You’re not offended by Jasmine Crockett calling Greg Abbott, ‘Governor Hot Wheels.’ You had no issues with voting in a rapist, racist, habitual liar, and felon into the presidency. I thought y’all liked it when people tell it like it is?”
